Class Descriptions

Creative Ballet
This class has been designed to introduce young children to the basic concepts of classroom etiquette, motor coordination, and musicality. The children will experiment with movement qualities as well as simple locomotion skills. Classroom exercises will provide interpretation of individual creative expression in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Pre-Ballet
This class builds on skills previously acquired in Creative Ballet while introducing new students to the basic concepts. More complex movements and full body coordination are explored. In addition, spatial awareness and directionality will be introduced. Individual artistic expression will be examined more in depth.

Ballet I
This class is designed to introduce young dancers to the foundations of the Vaganova technique. The practice exercises utilized at this level for the five basic ballet positions, correct full body placement, flexibility and the fine tuning of motor skills will help to develop the solid base essential to Classical Ballet training. Both barre and center work will be incorporated throughout the class. Emphasis is placed on working together as a corps de ballet while still maintaining individuality.

Ballet II
In this class, dancers will begin their formal training according to the Vaganova syllabus. Skills acquired in Ballet I will be expanded upon as more complex exercises and combinations are added. Flexibility, proper placement and alignment will be emphasized.

Beginner Pointe
This class emphasizes the development of the proper foot and ankle alignment and the strength needed to perform complex pointe work and partnering. The majority of exercises will be done at the barre until a level of proficiency is achieved to condition the student for center floor work.

Hip-Hop - Danna
This class incorporates a broad range of funky and soulful hip – hop styles. The fundamentals of hip – hop will be articulated through engaging routines and classroom exercises geared towards creating a well-rounded dancer. Free style is encouraged so that the dancer may develop their own expression of this popular dance form.

Hip-Hop - Timothy
This class is taught in the Americas Best Dance Crew style, better known as the ABDC. Break dancing, Tutting and Modern Crew will be integrated into the exercises. The ability to internalize choreography and perform the steps proficiently will be demonstrated.

Tap - TBD
*Pre-Tap - A fun introduction into the world of tap, this class teaches rhythm coordination and tap fundamentals. *Beginning Tap - Beginning tap consists of a mix of traditional Broadway and street tap. Time steps will be introduced and practiced along with basic rhythm steps.

Tap - Omar
Rhythm tap.

Jazz (Lyrical)
This class incorporates various styles of contemporary and classical jazz steps.

Yogilates
Yogilates is a method of exercise that integrates the core strengthening and alignment principles of Pilates with the practices of Hatha, Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga.
