The Director

Myung Sook Chun
Contemporary, Ballet, Yogilates (Yoga/Pilates), Korean Dance

Ms. Chun is a New York based dancer and choreographer. She earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in dance from NYU’s School of the Arts, a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, Korea and a Bachelor of Arts in dance from the Japan Women’s Physical College in Tokyo. Ms. Chun served as an adjunct professor of dance at The City University of New York, York College. Her teaching experience also includes Ewha Women’s University, Sang Myung Women’s University, Seoul Performing Arts College and Seo Ra Bul Performing Arts College in Seoul. Ms. Chun’s Korean Dance credits include an invitation from Lincoln Center Performing Arts to perform at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, American Museum of Natural History, for New York NBC television’s “History of Immigration”, and at many other cultural events around the country. Ms. Chun established the Myung Sook Chun Modern Dance Company, which performed at the National Theater in Seoul, from 1971 to 1973, before immigrating to the US in 1974. In 1986, Ms. Chun established the Myung Sook Chun Contemporary Dance Company. Her company performed in New York, China and Korea and well received by Jack Anderson of the New York Times.


Faculty

Amanda Addotta
Hip-Hop

Amanda initiated a Hip-Hop / Latin dance program in and around the Paterson area through the Girl Scouts at an early age. She also started to take hip-hop classes at Broadway Dance Center to get a better grasp on technique. While attending William Paterson University, her dance group, Shades, performed at the legendary Apollo Theatre’s ‘Amateur Night’ - twice! The group was also asked to perform at a sponsored event for MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew in 2007. Currently, she is teaching at various studios in North Jersey; working on competition choreography; and in the process of building up her studio program in Paterson- Silk City Dance.

 

Andrei Jouravlev
Ballet

Andrei studied at the Perm Academy in Russia and went on to become a principal dancer in the Perm State Ballet. He won silver and bronze medals in international competitions in Japan and Russia. Andrei toured internationally dancing the role of Espada in Don Quixote with American Ballet Theatre principal Nina Ananiashvili. He joined NJB as a principal dancer in 1994, and toured China with Stars of American Ballet in 1997. Among his signature roles are Meditation (from Thais) and Reflections. A much in demand guest artist, Mr. Jouravlev recently appeared as Albrecht in California Ballet's 40th anniversary season production of Giselle.

 

Bernard Goldenberg
Latin/Ballroom, First Dance of Wedding

Bernie was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and immigrated to the USA with his family. He was trained by World renowned coaches Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Taliat Tarsinov, Tonja Garamela, Michael Chapman and Goran Nordin. Bernie has participated in major competitions including The Canada and was a 2 time finalist of US National Championships (Youth Division) including a Gold Medal at the 2004 US Championship (Youth Latin Division) and Winner of 2005 Ohio Star Ball (Youth Division). He was also a finalist of all major US Dance Competitions, including 2007 Manhattan Dance Sport Championship and 2007 United States Open to the World Championships. He was also a US representative to the British and US Opens.


Chang Yong Sung
Contemporary

Chang Yong graduated from Duk won Arts High School and the Korean National University of Arts in Korea. He was a fellowship student at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and Performed in “Memoria” (choreographed by Alvin Ailey) with Alvin Ailey Dance Company at the City Center of New York. As a choreographer, his work entitled Moment was performed at the Lamama Theater and the Dumbo Festival at White Wave Dance Theater in NY. He is currently a Company member of The Alvin Ailey II and recently placed 1st at the Seoul International Dance Competition in Contemporary.

 

Christina Esposito Mahoney
Hip-Hop

Christina is currently a dancer for the Timothy Gordon Gordon Dance Company. They have recently performed in Pennsylvania, Show up and Dance in Red Bank NJ, and Montclair State University. Christina has also appeared on MTV’s TRL to demonstrate the latest moves of stepping. Presently she is teaching hip-hop, ballet, tap, jazz, and modern at various dance studios on New Jersey. Most recently she was a guest teacher at Bergen Community’s Teen Arts Festival. Her passion is performing and teaching hip-hop and jazz. She regularly studies at Broadway Dance Center in New York to keep this passion alive.

 

Christina Finamore
Jazz/Funk, Tap

Christina obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Degree in Dance at Montclair State University. She has worked with professional choreographers such as Sara Hook, Robert Benford, Peter Pussi, Ellen Cornfield, and Marlies Yearby. Christina has performed at Jose Limon Institute, the Hatch Festival, and The Producers Club in NYC and Kennedy Center, Washington DC. She has acted in the film short "The Morning After" and was a dancer in the music video "Lessons" by Rugged Man. She is currently performing with R-Way productions based out of the Hackensack Cultural Arts Center.

 

Lauren Zaleta
Ballet, Pointe

Lauren has studied at the Joffrey Ballet School in NYC and at the Rock School of Ballet in Philadelphia. At the Joffrey Ballet School, she gained experience teaching beginner and intermediate ballet and 3-7 year old division students. She has performed roles of the Ballerina Doll in the Joffrey Ballet School’s Nutcracker and the Spider Witch in Le Ballets del’Opera Chinois de New York’s world premiere of Journey to the West.

 

Lia Sanabria
Jazz Funk

Lia, born in Argentina, obtained her degree in professional dance at The Arts School of Buenos Aires. Lia started teaching and leading national dance groups for competitions in which she received the award for best coordination group and best costume in 1998. After dancing, teaching and performing for over 15 years in Buenos Aires, she moved to New York City to further her education in Jazz and Hip-Hop. She has trained at the Broadway Dance Center, Alvin Ailey and The Edge and participates in workshops and conventions regularly.


Omar Edwards
Tap

Omar started dancing at the age of 13, when he saw his cousin Savion Glover perform in the movie, "Tap". He soon began to learn from dancers such as Van Poter, Main Brooks, and Henry Le Tang, at the age of 16. He performed with the group Toe Jamm with Daniel Wooten, Jr. They appeared 13 times on Ed McMahon's Star Search and won the grand prize. The duo's success led them to numerous appearances on national television shows and an extensive tour throughout Europe and Japan. In 1993, he performed throughout the two year international tour of the Broadway hit "Black and Blue" and then joined the Broadway cast of "Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk". He has performed with major star, from Buster Brown to Bunny Briggs and recently toured Europe with blues legend Lind Hopkins in completed his first role in the motion picture "CAMP", and can be seen every Sunday night on NBC's "Showtime" at the Apollo Theater. He's also completed two "Tap Dance" albums. His first album is "Tap Dance is Music". He continues to tour his dance concert throughout the US and overseas and averages at least 150 tap shows a year.

 

Vitaly Verterich
Ballet

Vitaly trained at the Kirov Ballet School and the Moscow Academy of Art. After graduating, he danced solo roles in classical and contemporary works with the Russian Chamber Ballet Theatre, and often appeared as a guest with the Bolshoi and Kirov. In 1998, Vitaly was a principal with Moscow Ballet when Michael Flatley invited him to join Riverdance. Vitaly toured Europe, Australia, Canada and the U.S. with Riverdance, and performed in it on Broadway. Currently, Vitaly works as a principal dancer at the New Jersey Ballet Company.
